16/11/2012 - Vote by mail of Italian citizens in Israel
07/02/2013
-
In 2013 Italians will vote for the renewal of the Italian Parliament. The vote will involve Italian citizens abroad who will be called upon to vote for their representatives in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate choosing among candidates in the "Circoscrizione estero".
Please note that the VOTE is a RIGHT protected by the Italian Constitution and that, according to Law of 27 December 2001, n. 459, Italian citizens living abroad registered to vote in the "Circoscrizione Estero", can VOTE BY MAIL. To this end, it is recommended to update your data at the consular office's registry.
As an alternative, Italians living abroad can choose to vote in Italy by informing the Consular Office of this decision in writing (OPTION). The choice to avail oneself of this opportunity to vote in Italy (Option) only applies to one election.
Those who wish to vote in Italy must give written notice to the Consular Office BEFORE December 31 of the year preceding the date set for the expiration of the term (April 2013), i.e. by 31 December 2012. In case of early dissolution of Parliament, the option must be mailed or hand delivered no later than 10 days following the call of the vote. In any case, the option MUST BE RECEIVED by the Consular Office NO LATER THAN TEN DAYS AFTER THE VOTING INDICTION. The communication can be written on plain paper and to be valid it must contain name, date, place of birth, place of residence and signature of the voter. This communication can also be made using this form, which is also available at the Consular Office.
If the Option statement is not delivered personally, it must be accompanied by a copy of an identity document of the registrant.
As required by law, it is the responsibility of the voters to verify that the Option is received in due time by the Consular Office.
If the voter chooses to vote in Italy in the upcoming elections, a notice ("cartolina-avviso") will be sent from their municipality in Italy that they will vote for candidates in national constituencies and not for those of the Foreign Constituency.
If you choose to return to Italy to vote, the law does NOT provide for any type of reimbursement for travel expenses, but only tariff reductions within the Italian territory.
The decision to vote in Italy can then be REVERSED with a written notice to be sent or delivered Consular Office in the same manner and within the same time limits for the exercise of the Option.
